Mimun Yashir is one of the largest Israeli finance companies that has become one of our biggest supporters over the past three years. The organization puts great emphasis on employee involvement in community and volunteering activities, and we are very thankful and privileged for their incredible commitment to granting wishes.
This year alone, they have completed two Wish Challenge workshops including 50 members. Moreover, they have been taking a very active role in granting each of these wishes, designed at the workshops. One of these wishes is Romy’s wish to be a model for a day. The team created an unforgettable day for Romy, which included being picked up by a luxury car and driven to the studio.
There, two high-end professional fashion photographers waited for her with their entire crew of hair, makeup, stylist and a wardrobe for her photoshoot. This wish had such a tremendous impact on Romy that she said, “It made me feel beautiful again after forgetting this feeling since I’ve been diagnosed and underwent treatments." Romy’s wish story was featured in the most-watched entertainment tonight show in Israel, and Minmun Yasir’s team effort is what made this happen. They truly provided the magic!
Due to the broadcast on national TV and the tremendous amount of people that watched it and were touched by her story, hundreds of more wishes will be fulfilled.
Mimun Yasir also submitted a clip about their volunteerism with Make-A-Wish and that Wish Challenge to a national competition that will be seen by thousands. This is incredible exposure for us.
Registered last May, Make-A-Wish Shanghai has recruited more than 50 active volunteers, granted 28 wishes to eligible children, with 50 children awaiting their wishes in pipeline.
Make-A-Wish Shanghai built strong collaborations with partners, including: Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, Altman China, Disneyland China and the Peninsula Shanghai to name a few.
Make-A-Wish Shanghai gained a lot of media exposure from events like 2018 Lighting Wish Moment, Ben-Cham Gala and others. We also have a strong board with board members from hotel industry, Shanghai Disneyland, insurance companies, Ferrari, and in the art industry, who contribute their own resources to our wishes.
24 riders raised almost $25,000 USD and went cycling from Copenhagen in Danmark to Prague in the Czech Republic - more than 700 kilometers. Great branding!
Taking in consideration that we are the newest affiliate, we have accomplished many things this year: our goal was 60 wishes, and we reached our target this month with limited resources. We have made excellent alliances with large companies that are willing to take them regionally. We have assisted at least five affiliates with celebrity wishes. In our first year, we granted three international wishes. We have 160 volunteers actively working, and many others on a list pending to join this beautiful family.
On Wold Wish Day 2018, as part of a celebration at Park Hyatt Buenos Aires, the staff selected 20 children with different diagnoses and their wishes. The objective was to find godparents on the same night. It wasn't easy, because the wishes were electronics and different travels. The result was incredible, because the 20 wishes were granted that night.
The WISH TEAM is the name of this group of 50 volunteers that we have in Chile, divided into nine teams. Each of them does a great job bringing great fulfillment into children's lives with magic and hope. In Chile, this team deserves to receive recognition for achieving over 80% of wishes.
Since the first moment we met Angela, we knew she was a very special girl. Her big smile was contagious, and she told us about her unique passion: mermaids. She knows everything about them: she watches videos of her “friends” and she knows how they move, how they communicate, etc. She has always dreamt of "getting on a boat, going far, far way into the ocean…and seeing mermaids!"
Angela and her family started working on making her wish come true. She even composed a song for their friends! But due to a worsening of her complex health situation, we didn’t know when could her wish be granted. Waiting was not an option. So, we began to work in a new direction: the creation of a powerful anticipation experience. It was important to give Angela an extra dose of hope and strength! We created a special team, gathering wish granters, volunteers, current sponsors and new individuals whom we contacted anew.
The anticipation experience took place on June 12th with a magical setting: the Hotel Catalonia Magdelenes, which has a beautiful transparent pool. The place was decorated by Party Fiesta, our party retail products sponsor, to give an extra marine touch. Once there, Angela got to meet eyes wide open, a “mermaid trainer” – interpreted by a Spanish Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team member- who taught her she had learnt to swim with mermaids. Later on, she received a siren tail, designed exclusively for her by a professional designer. An unforgettable day, and a whole team working together to prove to Angela that her wish will soon come true. Now Angela knows that mermaids are waiting for her. The wish journey is alive.
Sapura Energy is an integrated oil and gas services company, which has been very generous in helping Make-A-Wish over the years. The management of Sapura Energy introduced Make-A-Wish to their staff, who are located in various offices, and encouraged them to sign up as volunteers. This initiative resulted in a team of over 30 volunteers who meet weekly, some traveling from different offices, to help craft wishes. They have helped in a broad range of wishes, from wishes to be a veterinarian, or to have a blue bicycle, bedroom makeover and more.
These volunteers (ranging from office administrators to engineers) bring with them diverse viewpoints and ideas, making the wishes so different, yet personal, for each child.
Frozen Carnival Taiwan 2017-2018 was the biggest event in Taipei city, hosted by The Walt Disney Company Taiwan, The Beast Kingdom Co., Ltd and Taipei 101. The event was held for 46 days and supported the mission of Make-A-Wish and to collect funds for granting wishes as well.
The mayor of Taipei city, Wen-Zhe Ke, specially came to the opening ceremony address. Make-A-Wish Taiwan prepared the public welfare booth. People could get a lottery ticket when they donated about USD$3.50 to Make-A-Wish Taiwan. There were a total of 91 prizes provided by The Walt Disney Company and other fashion brands. The biggest prize was two tickets to Hong Kong Disneyland and two nights free stay in Disney Explorer Resort Hong Kong.
50 volunteers and staff members of Make-A-Wish Taiwan took turns to host the booth from morning to night during the 46 days. We received great support from over 3,000 people. The total funds raised was USD$19,000 to grant wishes for children with critical illnesses in Taiwan.
These three groups are the premier local arm of a worldwide organization of Star Wars fans dedicated to wearing the costumes of characters from around the galaxy, with over 12,000 members all over the world. They devote their appearances to raising funds for children's charities all over the world. Here in the Philippines, they've done so many events for the benefit of Make-A-Wish. They have also opened their booths in several comicons for Make-A-Wish, by allowing people to have photo opportunities with them to collect donations for the affiliate.
The Art of Wishes Committee established the 2017 Gala Dinner in support of both Make-A-Wish UK and Israel. In its inaugural year, the event raised a phenomenal £2.8million for the two affiliates. The Art of Wishes 2017 was comprised of two events; a gallery viewing at Serpentine Galleries and a Gala Dinner at The Dorchester, London the following evening which was sponsored by Cartier. Timed around Frieze week, the Dinner welcomed over 400 high-profile guests, many of whom significantly contribute to the art world, worldwide.
In addition to a live and silent auction, Make-A-Wish astounded guests and the art world alike with a unique charity art auction, with works donated by established and emerging contemporary artists, including Tracey Emin. Each artist was asked to create a piece of work inspired by Children’s One True Wishes. The works were available to view at the Serpentine Galleries and bid for online at artsy.net, with the auction closing on the night of the Gala Dinner.
The Committee’s dedication, hard work and passion ensured the success of the 2017 event and has led to the implementation of the 2018 Luncheon. The Committee have agreed to support other affiliates alongside Make-A-Wish UK and Israel this year, with percentages of the net income going to support Make-A-Wish India, Mexico, Turkey and International. With the support of event partner, NET-A-PORTER, this year’s event is set to be another huge accomplishment for the Art of Wishes Committee, and will help grant life-changing wishes for children around the world.

The Make-A-Wish UAE team worked very hard to grant Ghaya's wish to go on a luxury cruiseliner with her family. Ghaya was ill, so the first cruise was cancelled, and the team had to re-schedule the cruise. Together with Abu Dhabi Port, staff and volunteers from Make-A-Wish UAE organised with the Ministry in Abu Dhabi to allow Ghaya to write her exams early, allowing her to be able to be booked on the cruise without further delay, once she was out of the hospital. This wish took 4-6 months to organise and to give Ghaya the wish experience of her dreams.
Liam is a 17-year-old living with a pulmonary condition. He loves soccer and travel, as well as listening to music and “chilling” with his family. Liam’s wish was to go to the 2018 FIFA World Soccer Cup in Russia.
This was a complex wish experience to coordinate, requiring daily collaboration between multiple Make-A-Wish® offices, staff and volunteers. The 2018 FIFA World Cup wish involved children from six different countries (including Liam) speaking different languages, complete with complicated travel document requirements. Add to this, the fact there isn’t a Make-A-Wish affiliate in Russia. Corine Heuvelmans from Make-A-Wish® International was instrumental in orchestrating wish details, working very closely with a local volunteer, Svetlana Zelenova. Together, Corine and Svetlana coordinated hotel arrangements and airport transfers, secured World Cup tickets, arranged escorts for game day and local transportation – all to ensure a seamless experience for the wish children and their families.
On June 15, 2018, Liam ‘s wish to go to the 2018 FIFA World Cup came true. He and his mother were flown to Russia to embark on a unique wish experience and attend two World Cup games.
This was an incredible wish experience for Liam and his mother. In Liam’s words: “I want to thank Make-A-Wish again so much for planning the Russia trip for me and my mom. That was one of the most incredible experiences of my life, I will never forget it! Truly a dream come true. Both games were amazing, Moscow is a beautiful city and the Make-A-Wish volunteer Svetlana was incredible. She showed us many parts of the city and overall was just a fun person to have around. Again, I can’t thank you enough for organizing and coordinating that trip, you all rock at your jobs! A week of my life I’ll always remember! Thanks a ton!”
A team made up of volunteers and employees of a large company on one hand and Make-A-Wish on the other can make miracles happen!
When different people of different ages, from different backgrounds and with different talents team up for a cause, then you know that something extraordinary will happen! “We don’t want to make a donation or just offer voluntary work. We want to build a team of people from both our company and your organization with a common goal: to spread the message of Make-A-Wish across the country!” were the words of L’OREAL Hellas’ Corporate Communication Director almost one year ago. 224 people got together to form a strategy in order to design and implement activities which would inform the public about Make-A-Wish, our mission statement and how we transform the lives of children. We brainstormed a lot, and we came up with some wonderful ideas, some of them never implemented before in Make-A-Wish Greece’s history.
As it seems, the team is here to stay. They have been united by the common vision, and they wish to do more! We feel truly blessed that we have team of amazing people who care about the purpose we are trying to achieve as much as we do, and want to enable us to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. All we have to do now is get to work and make miracles happen! When you have a team of people with a purpose that they care about, they can literally pull off anything. This is the key – they have to have a purpose, and they have to care about it.
